KENNARD RAMPHAL

Ken Ramphal was born in Canal No. 2 Polder in Guyana. He was a teacher before he joined the Guyana Defense Force as an officer cadet, and rose to the rank of captain. Ken was the ADC to the acting Governor General, Sir Edward Luckhoo and the President, His Excellency Arthur Chung, before he immigrated to Canada in 1975. Ken holds a B.A from the University of Guyana and a Ph.D from the University of Toronto. He was a teacher, an anti-racist Consultant in the East York Board of Education, and an Education Officer in the Ontario Ministry of Education. He is currently retired, and is the author of six books, including one, which he co-wrote with his sister and brother. He has also published several articles in educational journals. His book Slippery Ochro won 3rd prize at the Guyana Prize For Literature (fiction) 2023.
